Meaning Of The Colors In The Non Binary Flag
The term "non-binary" is used to describe people whose gender identity does not fall neatly into either the male or female categories. People who don't fit neatly into the binary of male and female may instead identify with being neither male nor female or with more than one gender entirely. They/them and other pronouns may be used by people who do not identify with a binary gender.
Those who don't fit neatly into either gender category are represented by the yellow band. It represents a more fluid and inclusive view of gender than the binary system of male and female suggests. Those who feel comfortable identifying with more than one gender are represented by the white bar. It represents the acceptance of a wide range of gender expressions and identities within the non-binary community.
Those who identify as both male and female are shown by the purple bar. It's a symbol of the fusion of masculine and feminine characteristics, praising the infinite variety of human sexuality. People who do not identify with any particular gender are represented by the black stripe. It represents a rejection or elimination of rigid gender norms that free people to choose their own identities. Non-binary is used to describe people who feel their gender cannot be defined within the margins of gender binary. Instead, they understand their gender in a way that goes beyond simply identifying as either a man or woman. Some non-binary people may feel comfortable within trans communities and find this is a safe space to be with others who don’t identify as cis, but this isn’t always the case.
